Nutrition

Patients at our center have started to receive nutritional assessment using a computerized program based on the 2006 USDA nutritional guidelines. Patients received an individualized assessment of their dietary diversity and nutrient intake. Caloric intake is evaluated and adjusted for weight loss based on patient's age, gender, medical conditions, and physical activity. Assessment is repeated every two weeks. In addition, patients received a one-hour weekly session nutrition class provided by the University of Georgia Extension Service. In this session patients learn about alternative cooking methods, read food labels and nutritional value of specific foods.
