They must demonstrate compassion with patients, other volunteers and paid staff, and must have the skills necessary to handle extremely sensitive and/or complex situations. Their activities include: greeting and helping patients through the facility; providing financial and resource counseling; and assisting in a variety of office functions. In addition, a set of core volunteers provide support in off-site activities such as fund-raising events, health fairs and outreach into the community. Community Volunteers report to the Executive Director with scheduling handled by the Administrative Assistant. As part of the volunteer application process, volunteers are asked about which tasks they would like to perform and when it would be convenient for them to volunteer. Volunteers who are interacting directly with patients during patient care hours will be asked to serve during the three-hour block of time devoted to patients. This may be on a weekly basis, but no less than a once-a-month basis. Volunteers who are providing administrative or other support functions may work at the HealthCare Center or at home depending upon the type of activities assigned. If working at the Center, administrative volunteers will be asked to work in at least three-hour blocks of time on a weekly basis, but no more less than a once-a-month basis. The following job descriptions apply to volunteers performing in non-medical roles at the Community HealthCare Center/Savannah Health Mission. All community volunteers are supervise and trained by the Volunteer Coordinator and the Executive Director. To Volunteer please call 912-692-1451
